Taste
Mulberries are deliciously sweet, toffee-like berries from the mulberry tree. Mulberries are perfect for snacking as they are, and as part of various trail mixes. Thanks to their sweetness, they are like nature’s own candy, making them ideal for all kinds of treats for the whole family.
In sweet dishes
Mulberries are also an excellent addition to muesli, porridge and yoghurt. The mild, sweet berries taste great in baked goods and make beautiful decorations on top of cakes. Mulberries are also a great match for raw chocolate – dip mulberries in raw chocolate sauce and add a dollop of coconut manna.
In savoury dishes
The use of these delicious berries is by no means limited to sweet baking and treats – sweet mulberries also balance savoury dishes such as colourful salads and rice dishes. Hot, spicy sauces often call for a hint of sweetness.
Background
The fruits of the white mulberry are white at first, but darken as they ripen. The mulberry tree owes its Finnish name to the silkworm, whose favourite food is the leaves of the white mulberry. For this reason, mulberries have been widely cultivated in China, Japan and southern Europe, where they travelled from China along the Silk Road to Turkey. Today, mulberries are enjoyed all over the world!
