Selenium in food

Bio-Selen®+Zinc also contains vitamin B6 and beta-carotene. It is known that in certain regions of the world the soil is low in selenium, which means agricultural products (including meat) contain less selenium.

SelenoPrecise® selenium yeast

The selenium source in Bio-Selen®+Zinc is Pharma Nord’s patented selenium yeast SelenoPrecise®, which contains selenomethionine and more than 30 different selenium species, so as to match the selenium compounds found in a varied diet as closely as possible. SelenoPrecise® has a documented absorption rate of 88.7%. The high and consistent quality of this selenium yeast is a key reason why it is ideal for and widely used in scientific research.

Selenoproteins

Researchers have identified around 25–30 different selenium-dependent proteins (selenoproteins) that serve various functions in our bodies. These proteins need selenium in order to work optimally. One of the most significant of them is selenoprotein P. In a published study*, researchers have demonstrated that at least 100 μg of selenium per day is required for this selenoprotein to reach its saturation level, that is, to be able to function optimally.
