What is Curcumin Pharma Nord?

Curcumin Pharma Nord contains 400 mg of turmeric extract (Curcuma longa), of which 100 mg is curcuminoids. The patented turmeric extract in Curcumin Pharma Nord has a high bioavailability. The product comes in plant-based capsules and contains no ingredients of animal origin, making it suitable for vegans.

The turmeric plant

The turmeric plant originates from India and South Asia. It is related to ginger and cardamom and can grow to over a metre in height. As a spice, ground turmeric root is best known as the main ingredient in curry powder, and it gives that spice its yellow colour.

Curcuminoids

Curcuminoids are a group of active compounds found in turmeric root. Curcumin, with its characteristic orange colour, is the most important and also the most studied single active compound in turmeric. Turmeric root generally contains 2–5 % curcumin, depending on where the plant is grown.

The chemistry of curcumin

Chemically, curcumin is a polyphenolic compound, a type of substance many plants produce to protect themselves against damage, pests and UV radiation. Curcumin extract also contains other plant compounds such as saponins, phytosterols, alkaloids, tannins and starches.
