How to use
When you start using a shampoo bar, give your hair time to get used to a natural shampoo bar containing plant oils. This may take several washes. The washing result improves even further if you lather the hair twice with a rinse in between, and on the second time let the shampoo sit in the hair while you wash your body, for example, and rinse at the end.
Plant oil bars
These bars are completely natural for washing hair. They contain wonderful pure plant oils – coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, hemp oil and oat oil. Some of these oils are fluid and dark, while others are bright in colour and thick. Different plant oils really do give the final product different properties that we can feel in our hair and scalp. In addition to these oils, we use nourishing clays, nettle, seaweed and hair care peat as well as beer in these products.
Getting used to it
Plant oil based bars are, simply put, soap, and because they are made from nature’s own plant oils, it may take an estimated 1-10 washes before the hair and scalp get used to these completely natural bars. At first the hair may feel somewhat sticky, which is simply because the already porous hair surface meets the natural plant oils and they cling to these porous spots in the hair. Over time the hair surface smooths out and the hair gets used to these plant oil based bars. So what makes the hair surface more porous in some people, in other words more prone to that sticky feeling? Fundamentally this comes down to inherited hair quality and to what kinds of substances the hair has been treated with before starting to use natural bars. It is nevertheless realistic to state that plant oil based bars simply are not suitable for everyone.
Tip
Getting your hair used to the bars can be sped up considerably by regularly doing an apple cider vinegar rinse on the hair after the actual wash in the early stages. An apple cider vinegar rinse is easy to make yourself with a mixing ratio of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar per 1 decilitre of water. The rinse closes the hair cuticles and the hair feels smoother after rinsing. This way the plant oils will not cling to the hair surface so easily going forward. You can always repeat this treatment as needed.
