Sources of vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 occurs in significant amounts only in products of animal origin. It may also be found in seaweed, mushrooms and fermented products, for example, but the vitamin B12 they contain has no biological activity in the human body, or the amounts required for use may cause other drawbacks, such as the high iodine content of seaweed.

Who it’s for

This is why vegans are advised to get their vitamin B12 from food supplements or fortified foods.
